14 Nov 08 Some Evening Gears of War

Played a bit of Gears 2 today after getting home from class. I got stuck in an excruciatingly long game of Submission on Blood Drive. We finally lost 2-1 and clocked in at just under 45 minutes. It’s all good though, as we got a lot of points towards our next rank.

I really didn’t care much for the first Gears of War, mostly because it was extremely difficult to get good at, but I’m enjoying the sequal a lot more.  I’m actually not too bad at this one, either.  I guess everything is more fun when you’re winning…

08 Nov 08 Gears of War 2, Server Tweakage

One was not enoughYesterday I picked up copies of Gears of War 2 for my brother, his friend, and myself.  This game is fantastic.  All of the quirks and bugs that still linger in the first are absent from the sequel.  The multiplayer is bigger, better, and one-hundred times more entertaining than the first.  Horde mode is a blast to play with a group of friends, and the party matchmaking is something that Gears players have longed for since forever.  The campaign is also way more intense and entertaining than I expected.

Unfortunately this game has caused me to put purchasing Resistance 2 on hold, and to neglect my friends on Warhammer, but it’s the one and only sacrifice I’m willing to make for a 360 title this year.  Get it.

On a side note, I’ve done tons of server tweaks in order to boost performance a little.  The result?  A huge performance gain.  Happy day.

30 Oct 08 Chromey-goodness, gamey-goodness, phoney-goodness

You know you’re hot stuff when you can divide your posts into titled sections.  (Just kidding. Kind of.)

Let’s Get Shiny

If you know me at all, you know what happens when something of mine is perfectly fine.  I get bored with it and decide to make unnecessary changes.  I decided to grab a recent theme based on Google Chrome’s interface.  At first I didn’t like it, but it grew on me.

Any frequent readers (do I have frequent readers here?) will have noticed that I’m a bit less active than I’ve been in the previous months.  Reason is, I spend all my time whining about things on Twitter that I have no material left for my own blog.

LittleBigTimeSink

I recently picked up LittleBigPlanet, a recently released platformer for the Playstation 3.  It’s basically a platformer that allows you to create and share levels over the Playstation Network with other players.  The possibilites are virtually limitless.  I’ve already seen someone recreate Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog and reinvent Tetris with jetpacks.  I’m having a blast and can’t wait to delve into some of these great user created maps.

iThink therefor iPhone

With the iPhone now in my pocket, I’ve become a Twitter and Flickr fiend.  I am now ‘tweeting’ more than blogging.  Follow me at http://www.twitter.com/ebel3003.  I’ve also added a photostream to the right side of my blog.  I have no particular theme or objective to accomplish with my photos, they’re just random things uploaded from my iPhone while I’m on the go.

11 Oct 08 Adventures of Blizzcon: Event Day

Yesterday Joe and I attended Blizzcon.  It was very lively and we were able to play yet-to-be-released games such as Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, which were very fun.  The costume and dance contests were pretty cool, some of the costumes were very well done.  Here’s a few photos from the event, unfortunately the lighting messed with my camera’s focus a lot.

09 Oct 08 Adventures of Blizzcon: Prelude

It was quite a day and I am exhausted.  Here’s the barely concious version of today:  I awoke early at 7:30 this morning (Hey, come on, this is early for me) and called Joe to wake him up and tell him to get his tail over to my place.  By 8;30 we were en route to the Anaheim Convention Center, a one-hour drive on a good day.  The drive went smooth, other than one unintentional detour into the Disneyland parking lot, and we arrived at about 10:15.  We wandered around for about 15 minutes looking for the registration office where we were informed that registration would not take place until 4pm.  Unfortunately, we were under the impression that registration started at 9am (you know, like it said before they changed it).  This unfortunately pretty much changed our days entire plans.  We had anticipated waiting for an hour tops and being able to catch our afternoon classes.  We ended up just sticking around for five and a half hours.  We had pizza for lunch and were near the front of the line to get our passes and loot.  Didn’t take long to get in and get out, and we made it back into town at around 6:45.  It sucked, but was totally worth it.  Now I just have to endure one more drive to Anaheim and back, but we get to actually enjoy the convention.  Hopefully I won’t be tarred and feathered, being a Warhammer player at a mainly World of Warcraft themed event.
